Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
I’m not sure what help I need?
I suggest one meeting in the first instance. We will explore what has brought you to therapy, what are your pressing concerns, what mental health support you need and to find out how you wish to work. This exploration is best carried out in a meeting, rather than over the phone.
I don’t know if I want traditional counselling?
There are options other than sitting face to face. You are very welcome to try a session in my garden room. If this isn’t possible due to distance or accessibility, we can work on the telephone, on a video call or outdoors at a mutual venue.
How do I help clients presenting with neurodivergent needs?
My room is very private, quiet and calm. It is a low sensory room, you can chose what lighting you have. You can wear your own ear loops, or have a fidget toy/something to hold during the session. You can bring your own favourite item or borrow from my room. If you don’t want eye contact, let me know and we can arrange the seating to suit you. I can support you if you are undergoing assessment and diagnosis.
How do I help clients who identify as LGBTQIA+?
If you are questioning your orientation, your gender or sexuality, you may be considering transitioning, or you are coming out, you are welcome to my practice. We’ll talk about the personal meaning of this to you and those you are connected to.
You may be the parent of an adult child in the process of questioning, coming out or transitioning. I use my human skills of empathy and support to help you process the feelings and experiences personal to you .
How much does it cost?
My fee is £50.00 per hour. Payment is made by bank transfer to confirm your appointment and there is a cancellation policy. I will offer you my therapeutic contract around fees and cancellation. NHS and blue light workers along with therapy students are offered a concession.
How many sessions will it go on for, I don’t know what I need?
I would always suggest working for short-term, six sessions is a good estimation to review if have you reached your therapeutic goal, or if you need longer term work? In my sessions, I will summarise, review your progress and check-in with you that the therapy is of benefit.
What if I find it difficult once I have started the work?
I will always ask you about your support network, including your GP support. We will explore why it is difficult and if you need help from another service, agency or counsellor. We’ll do this safely to ensure I meet all your needs.
Can I have some sessions and come back to you?
Yes. You may find a block of therapeutic work helpful and then you may wish to suspend and come back to me for future support
